About Torcal

Lenders have products. Borrowers have situations.

A plant to expand. Equipment to buy ahead of a contract. A maturity with no offer. Torcal reads the situation and places the financing that solves it, from a deep bench of bank, alternative and private credit lenders.

Torcal today

Torcal Credit Inc. is a commercial credit markets desk at 150 King Street West in Toronto’s financial district. It covers the Ontario companies building Canada’s industrial base, across defence, advanced manufacturing, infrastructure and strategic industries, and originates, structures and places their financing with leading banks and non-bank lenders.

Growth and recovery

Banks are excellent in the middle of the curve: clean coverage, seasoned cash flow, a conventional asset. That file should be financed by a bank, and usually is.

Deals fall out of the comfort zone in two directions. On the growth side a company is moving faster than its statements can show. On the recovery side the file has been marked: a maturity with no offer, a covenant breach, a restructuring.

Both directions need a bridge back to conventional terms. That is the work.

Growth and recovery: where credit lives across the curve A curve of the secured credit market. Banks sit inside the top of the curve. Growth situations fall away to the left toward cash and recovery situations to the right toward auction. Non-bank, alternative and private lenders bridge both sides back toward conventional terms. A single Torcal shape joins both columns with a shelf of bank and non-bank prime beneath the curve, drawing on 125 approved lenders. Defence & aerospace

Dual use.

Defence & aerospace work has many innovative applications.

Matthew Dobson lived and worked in Southern California from 1997 to 2012, including with GE Capital, among some of the world’s deepest defence and aerospace supply chains. What held true there holds true in Ontario: the precision, materials, electronics and software built for defence programs find their way into commercial aircraft, vehicles, medical devices and everyday products.

Torcal covers these advanced manufacturers as dual-use businesses, suppliers whose defence and commercial work strengthen each other. For a lender, that is two sources of revenue behind one credit.
